Kirkcudbright – Artists’ Town
My home/studio is located in the small harbour town of Kirkcudbright on the shores of the River Dee.
This area of outstanding beauty, with its great qualities of light, brought artists’ in the 1880’s to paint in this quiet corner of south west Scotland and establish Kirkcudbright as an Artists’ colony. Some well-known names in art deciding not just to visit the town, but to stay in Kirkcudbright for the rest of their lives.
Today, Kirkcudbright is appropriately called ’ Artists’ Town’.
Eventually it is hoped that by recognising the town as the ‘St. Ives of the North’, a new gallery may be established to show the works of the good and the great who once painted here and bring them all together again in one place.
I have produced a series of soft pastels focusing on the fantastic qualities of light and colour experienced here in Kirkcudbright.
The website gives a comprehensive amount of information and detail about the ancient and Royal Burgh of Kirkcudbright, and about its contemporary art and artists.
